Kinesio Tape is an elastic, thin, stretchy, cohesive, lightweight tape to treat wide variety of musculoskeletal, sports injuries and inflammatory conditions. The original purpose was for oedema control, soft tissue support, joint protection, and relieving heat produced from active inflammation. Kinesio Tape applied on the skin with a low degree of stretch changes the density and the concentration of the tissue in the dermis and epidermis. This mechanical stimulus converted into electrical impulses is called mechanotransduction and can produce cell movement. The tape also produces pressure and stretch on the skin that may be able to stimulate mechanoreceptors. This stimulus interacts with CNS and modulates pain responses. The tape elevates the skin, enhancing the blood circulation, and lymphatic flow resulting in drainage of waste products.
